The Magic of the Lost series by C. L. Clark is a sweeping sapphic epic fantasy trilogy about colonialism, revolution, loyalty, and power, set in a North African–inspired desert empire. At the center are Touraine, a soldier stolen from her homeland as a child and raised to serve the empire that conquered her people, and Luca, a princess fighting for political power within that same empire. Their relationship is complicated, magnetic, and constantly pulled apart by war, betrayal, ambition, and conflicting loyalties. Across the trilogy, rebellions rise, empires crumble, and both women are forced to question what freedom, justice, and love actually cost.

The first book, The Unbroken, focuses on rebellion and identity as Touraine returns to her occupied homeland as an imperial soldier while Luca tries to use her politically to secure the throne. It’s full of military strategy, espionage, assassinations, and tense emotional chemistry.

The sequel, The Faithless, expands into political fallout and revolution-building after the empire begins withdrawing from Qazal. Both women now have power, but they struggle with leadership, trust, and whether dismantling oppression is actually possible from inside broken systems.

The final book, The Sovereign, raises the stakes even further with plague, unstable alliances, war, and magic threatening to tear everything apart. The trilogy ultimately becomes as much about identity and healing as it is about empire and survival.
